It was a nice try, Chevy Volt. For the better part of the decade, the Prius Hybrid Sedan had been the apex of fuel efficient vehicles. Then, with a little help from $3 Billion (thats Billion, with a "B") of tax credits, subsidies, and grants from the US taxpayers, General Motors was able to launch the Volt, which achieved the startling EPA rating of 94 MPGe (Miles Per Gallon Equivalent) with its electric/hybrid engine. But, that accomplishment was short-lived, since the new Toyota Prius Plug-in has been rated at 95 MPGe by the EPA.

While in EV (electric only) Mode, the Prius Plug-in is rated by the EPA to drive up to 11 miles. It's also capable of traveling up to 62 mph using electric power alone. In hybrid mode, it has an EPA combined mileage rating of 50 mpg. This means that when the EV Mode is depleted, Prius Plug-in still obtains the same estimated high fuel economy rating as Prius Liftback. The volt, by comparison, only gets 37 MPG in hybrid mode, after the battery is deleted. With its Lithium-ion power and extended electric vehicle mode, the Prius Plug-in is EPA-rated for a total driving range of 540 miles.

The Prius Plug-in does cost about $6,000 more than its regular Prius Hybrid counter-part, however that is partially offset by the $2,500 Federal Tax credit offered for the plug-in. (More information available at: http://www.irs.gov/businesses/article/0,,id=219867,00.html). For those who spend a bit of time on the road, the additional 45 miles per gallon should factor in some big savings too.

The Prius Plug-in is be available in two models, the Prius Plug-in and the Prius Plug-in Advanced, both of which are currently in stock at Toyota of Braintree. The Prius Plug-in Hybrid model comes equipped with an abundance of standard features including LED Daytime Running Lights, Smart Key on three doors, Display Audio with Navigation and Entune? with integrated backup camera, Touch Tracer Display, heated front seats, Remote Climate (A/C only), EV/ECO/POWER modes, unique15-inch 10-spoke alloy wheels, enhanced Multi-information Display and much more.

The Prius Plug-in Advanced model adds additional standard features including Premium HDD Navigation with Entune? and JBL® GreenEdge?, Plug-in Hybrid Applications through a user's smartphone (Charge Management, Remote Climate, Vehicle Finder, Charging Station Map², and ECO Dashboard²), Head-up Display, Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, Pre-Collision System, LED headlamps with auto on/off feature and integrated fog lamps, SofTex-trimmed seating, an eight-way power adjustable driver's seat, Safety Connect and more.

This year, the 2012 Toyota Camry Hybrid has already earned the title of "Best Family Sedan" from Consumer Reports.  It seems that with the new redesign, significantly improved fuel…

Prius Wagon V  Coming Soon!

The Prius V wagon hasn't hit the market yet, but based on expected demand, Toyota is already nearly doubling production.

Toyota has been talking long enough about new Prius models: Longer, wider and taller than the current Prius sedan.  The upcoming Prius V wagon has the ambitious calling to not only deliver up to legendary fuel economy, but to upend the status quo in the tall-wagon segment; for starters?
