It was a nice try, Chevy Volt. For the better part of the decade, the Prius Hybrid Sedan had been the apex of fuel efficient vehicles. Then, with a little help from $3 Billion (thats Billion, with a "B") of tax credits, subsidies, and grants from the US taxpayers, General Motors was able to launch the Volt, which achieved the startling EPA rating of 94 MPGe (Miles Per Gallon Equivalent) with its electric/hybrid engine. But, that accomplishment was short-lived, since the new Toyota Prius Plug-in has been rated at 95 MPGe by the EPA.

While in EV (electric only) Mode, the Prius Plug-in is rated by the EPA to drive up to 11 miles. It's also capable of traveling up to 62 mph using electric power alone. In hybrid mode, it has an EPA combined mileage rating of 50 mpg. This means that when the EV Mode is depleted, Prius Plug-in still obtains the same estimated high fuel economy rating as Prius Liftback. The volt, by comparison, only gets 37 MPG in hybrid mode, after the battery is deleted. With its Lithium-ion power and extended electric vehicle mode, the Prius Plug-in is EPA-rated for a total driving range of 540 miles.

The Prius Plug-in does cost about $6,000 more than its regular Prius Hybrid counter-part, however that is partially offset by the $2,500 Federal Tax credit offered for the plug-in. (More information available at: http://www.irs.gov/businesses/article/0,,id=219867,00.html). For those who spend a bit of time on the road, the additional 45 miles per gallon should factor in some big savings too.

The Prius Plug-in is be available in two models, the Prius Plug-in and the Prius Plug-in Advanced, both of which are currently in stock at Toyota of Braintree. The Prius Plug-in Hybrid model comes equipped with an abundance of standard features including LED Daytime Running Lights, Smart Key on three doors, Display Audio with Navigation and Entune? with integrated backup camera, Touch Tracer Display, heated front seats, Remote Climate (A/C only), EV/ECO/POWER modes, unique15-inch 10-spoke alloy wheels, enhanced Multi-information Display and much more.

The Prius Plug-in Advanced model adds additional standard features including Premium HDD Navigation with Entune? and JBL® GreenEdge?, Plug-in Hybrid Applications through a user's smartphone (Charge Management, Remote Climate, Vehicle Finder, Charging Station Map², and ECO Dashboard²), Head-up Display, Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, Pre-Collision System, LED headlamps with auto on/off feature and integrated fog lamps, SofTex-trimmed seating, an eight-way power adjustable driver's seat, Safety Connect and more.

Toyota's Sporty Little Secret- 2012 Toyota Yaris

Toyota seems to have dominated the small and subcompact markets, not only with the Corolla and Prius, which lead their segments, but with new arrivals like the Prius V, Prius C, Prius Plug-in and Matrix. With all those offerings, it is easy to over look the most fuel efficient non-hybrid Toyota has- the 2012 Yaris.

Redesigned for 2012, the Yaris has racked more accolades than any other Toyota. The 3-door liftback was picked as Best…

Oh, Scion xB, we Hardly Knew You!

Ward's Auto is reporting today that the Scion xB, that spacious and beloved rectangle on wheels, is slated to be discontinued.

Part of Scion's marketing approach as been what has been termed "one and done" .. that is, each model gets a single generation before they discontinued forever.  The xB broke the mold in the sense that it went into a 2nd Generation... and in the process, started a trend in "boxy" style of?

Prius C demand overwhelms production at home and abroad

Toyota's new Hybrid, the Prius C, is finding new homes all over the world as fast as Toyota can build them.

Back in December, when the car went on sale as the "Aqua"  in Japan, the company received 120,000 orders  in the first five days it was on sale. And in the United States, Toyota sold 1,200 Prius C units in the first three days it was on sale.    The factory building…

The New 2013 Toyota Avalon

Earlier this month Toyota revealed the all-new 2013 Avalon premium mid-size sedan today at the 2012 New York International Auto Show. The new Avalon is re-conceived for the premium mid-size sedan segment with a progressive and emotionally styled exterior design. It is expected to be available at Toyota of Braintree late in 2012.

The body itself is slightly more compact, but, as a testament to Toyota engineering, actually provides more interior room, and more storage?

As most of our clever Toyota drivers know, the Japanese automaker was the first to premiere a mass-produced hybrid vehicle with the Toyota Prius. The Prius is now in its third-generation, and it's added several more members to its hybrid family. One of the newest additions to this line-up is the 2012 Toyota Prius c, a five-door hatchback with a lot of style and a very affordable price.

Coming in at a whopping 542 pounds lighter, 19 inches shorter, and 1 inch lower than the standard Prius, the new Prius c is a lighter, even more fuel efficient version…

Toyota Prius Camper Variant

California loves Prius. It is the place where hybrid cars are dreamed up, after all. It's no wonder Toyota Prius is such a hit.

There's plenty of cargo room in both the sedan and Prius-V variants, but if you need a little more storage space, there's an answer. Camp-Inn has designed an extension of Prius rear hatch space, on display at the annual Tokyo Auto Salon. It's a new kind of roof camper.

The device extends rear capacity, as well as protected roof storage by 20 inches. With your Prius rear seating folded down, Camp-Inn claims…
